Beach Walk

One of the many great joys of living on Whidbey Island is that there are lots of beaches and many opportunities for beach walks!

Happy Hour...

Funny - I didn't realize until I was all done with this how much it looks like it should be called "Happy Hour at the Star Trek Convention" :) I didn't intend for her dress to look like Star Trek - but it sure does to me...

Blog Award

Thanks Dominique for the "A Passion for Painting" award! I really appreciate it - especially coming from a great artist like you.
Here are 7 things I like:
1. Of course - all things visual - the beauty of nature from the sunrise on this beautiful bay I live on to the soul in my dog's eyes - I love it all.
2. The gift of friendship. I'm so blessed by having good friends that rejuvenate and replenish me. I include the friendship of my family - which I cherish.
3. The power of music. Nothing else can move me quite like music can - it resonates somewhere very deep in my soul.
4. The power of words. I'm also greatly moved and inspired by the depth of emotion and inspiration to be found in words - both written and spoken.
5. Food. I've recently found a new appreciation for fresh locally produced food. It is so worth it to me to drive a few extra miles to get really good tasting and good for you kind of organic produce. We have a co-op about half an hour from here and I'm really loving discovering what they have to offer.
6. Art supplies - my studio looks like an art store - each medium has its own unique and wonderful quality that I can't get enough of.
7. Animals - since I was a little girl I have had a connecting bond with animals that is beyond explanation. Just looking in their sweet eyes and experiencing the generosity of their souls can move me to tears.

Shelter

Yes - it's another watercolor portrait painting...I just can't seem to stop:) This one is on hot press watercolor paper. I only have two of the Aquabords left so I decided to save them and go back to the regular paper which I thankfully have plenty of... I was very happy with the composition on this one - and the little heart shape in the wrinkles of her left pants leg.

"Hard Times Come Again No More"

I painted this 6"X6" watercolor painting on Aquabord. It's only the 2nd time I've tried this surface and it will take some getting used to although I'm happy with the result. It really seems to soak the water right up making it necessary to work quickly.

Dusty and Rainey on COUCH PATROL

"Mandy"

This sweet old girl is my friend's white lab Mandy. I loved the colors and pattern in the rug she was laying on - I'm happy anytime I can use a lot of red paint:)

Dock Garden

I just loved the warm red color of these geranium pots contrasted with the blue/green water. It was so inviting looking to me.

Such a sweet face...

I took the reference photo for this painting last year at the Puyallup Fair. Her sweet face just captivated me!

Thinking it over...

My artistic goal for 2009 is to paint better people portraits - this is another piece in that effort...
